Long before it became inextricably linked with Bob Dylan`s infamous electric performance, the Newport Folk Festival was the premier event of the burgeoning 1960s music scene. The brainchild of Newport Jazz Festival founder, George Wein, folk music festival and his business partner, Albert Grossman (who later went on to manage Dylan), Newport introduced the world to a then-unknown folk singer named Joan Baez folk music festival and nurtured the talents of more established artists such as Donovan, Pete Seeger, Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, folk music festival and Peter, Paul folk music festival and Mary. Veteran music director Murray Lerner (MESSAGE TO LOVE: THE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL) presents a collection of archival footage from four of Newport`s `60s-era festivals featuring these folk music festival and many other legendary musicians for a vital historical document of an American cultural institution. The Chilean folk group formed in 1971 playing a music style known as folklore andino. Illapu (an aboriginal word which means flash of lightning), successfully participated in Vina del Mar festival in 1973, folk music festival and later performed at Bolivian folk music festival and Argentinean venues. They put together an interesting play, called El Grito de la Raza, combining music, acting folk music festival and dance. 1976s Despedida del Pueblo featured classic folk song Candombe Para Jose, becoming one of the bands anthems. When the group returned from a European tour in 1980, Illapu was accused of raising support against the Chilean government folk music festival and sent into exile, returning a decade later after living in France folk music festival and Mexico. 1993s En Estos Dias, featuring the hit single Lejos del Amor, achieved seven platinum records.
